The Hunger Games Poem

All the worlds a stage
Where Puppets fight and kill
Insanity’s the rage
And sadists get their thrill

Power hungry ghouls
Crave reality TV fame
But death is for the fools
Who play the Hunger Game

It’s a risk she has to take
Self- sacrifice within
Her sister’s life at stake
So let the Games begin

Steady as she goes
The girl she doesn’t waiver
So may those horrid odds
Be ever in her favor

There up on the screen
She sees replayed the reaping
It’s time to make a scene
No time for the sleeping

Cinna lights the fuse
To burn the crowd’s desire
A sacrificial muse
She is the girl on fire

What is this dazzling light
Profounding the obscene
So brilliantly burning bright
She’s Katniss Everdeen

Counterfeit love is made
To build up a sensation
Parts that are well played
With one great reservation

One player’s love is true
And one is not yet known
She doesn’t have a clue
His life is not his own

The tributes they are raised
From metal plates below
So nervous and so dazed
Sixty seconds up- Now Go

A backpack in her sight
Running for her life
Another girl takes flight
I thank you for the knife

Careers advance on prey
She’s stuck up in a tree
Until she dies they’ll stay
Below her destiny

A signal across the way
From the girl who is so small
A hive where they all lay
She points to make it fall

That clever little Rue
Saves her from her attackers
She cuts the branch in two
Release the TrackerJackers

The trackerjackers sting
The trackersjackers kill
They bite her on the knee
She falls under a spell

Run Fall Trip Spin
Red Gold Green Blue
Cato Peeta Fight Win
Haymatch Cinna Effie Rue

Rue with her Eye Spy
Confirms that Peeta saved her
Asks herself Why Why
A servant who enslaves her

Help Help cries Rue
It is her final hour
Here is the place where I love you
The glory in the flower

Pain Inside her broken heart
A four alarm burning blister
Rue so special from the start
A fallen bonus sister

Because of Peeta still alive
And she in turn must save Him
Reminds herself she must survive
For her mother and for Prim

Muttations chase to kill
With faces of the dead
FoxFace Thresh so real
Blonde hair Glimmer’s head

A shot into the hand
The couple seems to win
A change in the command
A new game to begin

The victor was once one
Then it changed to two
Now the games not done
What are they to do

Poison berries hold them out
Then count one two three
A final kiss upon the mouth
So soft and so gently

But before they get to two
And from the horn will drop
Not what they’re supposed to do
Claudius Templesmith yells “Stop”

Thinking not of their own self
Unselfish and so keen
The winners from district 12
Peeta Mellark Katniss Everdeen

As victors now they stand
They defied President Snow
They hold each other’s hand
They don’t want to let go

But what will come next year
And the year that will follow
Districts filled with fear
Winning seems so hollow

Still Power hungry ghouls
Crave reality TV fame
And death is for the fools
Who play the Hunger Game
